Three First Timers Win at Path Valley

Three racers won their first feature events of the season Friday night at the Path Valley Speedway Park. In Thunder Cars Bill Kennedy won his first feature ever; Tim Mertz won his first Path Valley feature of the season in the 1000cc Sidewinders and Levi Peck won his first race in three years and first ever in the 270 Sprints.

Geremey Sheaffer won a hot and close feature in the Central PA Legends Cars while Jake Murphy raced to the win in 600 Sprints and Ricky Harper passed to whole field to win in Mini Stocks. Next Friday night is Pizza Star Race Night and features the Late Models and INEX Legends Cars.

The race of the night was in the Legends Cars as three drivers swapped the lead repeatedly in close racing action with only one caution to regroup the rest of the field behind them. Josh Morrow led the first lap and Geremey Sheaffer took over the lead on a lap two restart. Morrow and Sheaffer went side by side for laps seven through 11 with first one and then the other in the lead until lap 12 when Reed Salony took second place and pulled alongside Morrow. Morrow continued to lead with either Salony or Sheaffer alongside until the final lap when Sheaffer went to the inside into turn three and emerged in front down the final stretch to take the checkered flag. The front five finishers were Sheaffer, Salony, Morrow, Greg Burd and Robert Sobieski and Salony and Sheaffer won the heat races.

After three bad starts for the Sidewinders feature, Tim Mertz passed Rick Hench to lead the first lap and Hench spun out for another caution on lap two. Mertz led the rest of the way as Aaron Spahr came from twelfth to take second on lap four and then gave up the runner up spot to Ryan Greth on the final lap. Gary Funck took second on lap 14 and then flopped onto his side in lap 16 for the final caution. The front five finishers were Mertz, Greth, Spahr, Rohan Beasley and Jason Morrison and the heat winners were Denny Landvater and Mertz.

Tom Kohler led the first four laps of the 600 Sprints feature but on a lap five restart Jake Murphy passed him through turns one and two to keep just ahead all the way to the finish. The front five were Murphy, Kohler, Jim Brookens from a twelfth place start, Tyler Walton and Keith Woodson. Tyler DeVault, Brookens and Kohler won the heat races.

Levi Peck took full advantage of his start from the pole to lead every lap in the 270 Sprints feature. After a lap ten restart he raced ahead of Sean Good and then in the final two laps Steve Whary to his first win. The front five were Peck, Whary, Good, Sean McAndrews and Tanner Hunsicker and the heat winners were McAndrews and Jason Houtz.

From his own pole starting spot Bill Kennedy also led every lap for his first win ever in the Thunder Cars. Three restarts gave second place Mark Grove a chance to catch Kennedy, but at the finish the front five were Kennedy, Grove, Terry Smith, Randy Stull and Josh Walstrum. Grove won the heat race.

From out of a seventh place start Ricky Harper took the lead in the Mini Stocks passing Gary Dehart through laps seven and eight. The front five were Harper, Jeremy Ott, Dehart, Gary Newell and Frank Gordon and Harper won the single heat race.
